A growing body of research suggests that juvenile walleye (and a whole array of other fish commonly pursued in the open lake) are heavily dependent on wetland habitats and nearshore waters early in their development. Warm, nutrient-rich water coupled with the protection of complex habitats make wetlands ideal nursery grounds for a tremendous diversity of both game and non-game fish species.
